KINGSTON (JIS) -- Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is assuring clients that it will continue to provide training on the use of its Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS). Commissioner General of TAJ, Ainsley Powell, told JIS News that the agency has implemented strategies to educate taxpayers on the use of the web-based facility. “At Constant Spring, we have a dedicated room that you can go to use the computers there and we’ll walk you through,” he noted.
Director of Communications TAJ, Meris Haughton, informed the TAJ has a “robust tax education programme” to adequately assist its clients.
“Our tax education officers, client relationship managers and customer centre agents have all been trained …to facilitate the support to our customers,” she pointed out.
Meanwhile, Mr. Powell informed that response to the new system has been “better than anticipated.”
“We have a high registration of persons for our e-service. So far, approximately 20,000 clients have registered up from 4,000,” he informed.
With the implementation of RAiS taxpayers are able to access a wide range of services online.
These include: viewing their filing and payment history; generating statement of accounts; requesting a refund and tracking its status; creating a payment plan; requesting approval for tax-free travelling allowance; applying for income tax exemptions; objecting to an assessment; verifying tax withholding or zero-rating entities; and granting third party access to accounts.
Customers are also able to submit Tax Registration Number (TRN) applications with supporting documents as well as apply for a Tax Compliance Certificate.
The RAiS project began in May 2014 with phase one being implemented in February and phase two on December 7.
It is expected that the project will be fully rolled out in June 2016.
