BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (SKNIS) -- Stephenson Hewlette, of the Public Works Department (P.W.D.) received a special award last Friday (January 29), one that he never saw coming.
Staff from the Department of Youth Empowerment executed a well planned surprise when they traveled in a convoy to the PWD to present the Director of Youth Award to Mr. Hewlette.
Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment, Geoffrey Hanley, said Hawkie, as he is affectionately known, often goes the extra mile to assist in youth development activities.
“For the past 18 years that I have been associated with the youth empowerment department, Mr. Hewlette has never, ever said no to any of our requests,” Hanley said. “And as I make my exit from the department, I thought it was quite fitting that we show our love and appreciation to Hawkie for all of the work that he has done for us over the years. Not only during our camp but anything at all that we needed done in the youth department when it came to transportation.”
Mr. Hanley recalled that there were times when other persons from the PWD were not able to assist Mr. Hewlette, but he remained true to his commitment and did whatever he could on his own.
Mr. Hewlette was also presented with several tokens of appreciation. He thanked the staff for the pleasant surprise and promised that he will continue to assist the department in the future.
The Director of Youth Award was established to recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals/agencies to the Department of Youth Empowerment.
