PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (GISL) -- Hundreds of students and teachers from twenty four (24) secondary schools across the nation came together to participate in the second edition of “Expresiones Estudiantiles en Español” Talent Show, on Tuesday March 1, 2016, which took place at the Rudrinath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre (RCLRC), Mc Bean Couva.
They sang, danced and performed skits to showcase their Spanish language skills while opening the cultural door to many of our Latin-American neighbouring countries.
Ingrid Khemchand, Curriculum Coordinator of the Planning and Development Division (CPDD) in the Ministry of Education said, “With Spanish now being ranked as the second most spoken language in the world, behind Mandarin Chinese, it has now becoming critical for our students to learn Spanish.”
She further advised students to make use of the opportunity to learn a second language, as many employers look for bilingual employees to breakdown the language barrier and increase their business activities in nearby Latin American markets.
Among those attending the event were the Ambassador of Spain to Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Jose Maria Fernandez Lopez de Turiso, Head of the Consular Section of the Mexican Embassy, Consul Jorge Torres Mendoza, First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago, Alex Gonzalez Garcia and the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Colombia Paola Andrea Mosquera Arce.
As part of the event’s programme, students performed skits and songs in Spanish, as well as traditional Latin American dances.
“Expresiones Estudiantes en Español” Talent Show was jointly organised by Curriculum Division and the Secretariat for the Implementation of Spanish (SIS) to further promote and encourage the learning of Spanish among the nation’s student population.
