GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman (CNS) -- The RCIPS has confirmed that officers are investigating a brawl that broke out at Camana Bay on Saturday night involving minors.

Police on patrol in the area responded to fights at around 10:30pm and again at 11:30pm but claimed the fighting kids quickly dispersed after their arrival. However, other eye-witness sources told CNS that as many as sixty young people were involved in the “out of control” brawls, which involved rival students from John Gray and Clifton Hunter high schools.

A number of readers contacted CNS about the event and described the incidents as “mayhem” a,nd concerns were raised that several kids had been injured. Police told CNS they had learned that one individual did attend George Town hospital for treatment but said that they had been unable to solicit any information from the youngsters at the time.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Camana Bay stated that they were aware of the fights but that the “incident involving several disruptive individuals” was “quickly controlled” after their own security staff and the RCIPS arrived on the scene. “However it took some time for the crowd of spectators to disperse,” the Dart spokesperson stated, noting that the matter was being investigated by the police, so they were unable to comment further on the specific incident.

The spokesperson added that the safety and security of guests, tenants and employees was their highest priority. “We have security personnel onsite 24 hours a day, and for several years enhanced security on Friday and Saturday nights, which includes contracted officers from the RCIPS… Each day, more than 1,500 people visit Camana Bay and have a great experience.”

With indications that the fights specifically related to school rivalries, CNS also contacted the education department and ministry but no one has responded to the request for comment.
