RIVIERE SALEE, Martinique (NORCECA) -- Bahamian captain Princ'tanique Wilson was voted as the Most Valuable Player of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA)/FIVB World Championship Qualifier Men Group A qualifiers after leading his team to top spot.
Over the two days of competition, Wilson led Bahamas to a 2-0 record in the three-team round-robin series to finish ahead of host Martinique (1-1) and Aruba (0-2) at the Palais Des Sports Riviere Salee.
In addition to being voted as the two-day tournament's overall top player, Wilson also captured the 'Best Scorer" and "Best Receiver" awards.
Commenting on his accolades Wilson said he was just happy that his team managed to accomplish its goal of topping the qualifiers and advancing to the next phase of competition. "We came here with an aim and while I am happy for the awards I am more delighted in what we accomplished as a group," said Wilson.
In addition to Wilson, his team-mates Jamaal Ferguson, Byron Ferguson and Renaldo Knowles also picked up individual awards.
Jamaal Ferguson, who normally plays libero, but was positioned as an Outside Hitter" won one of the two Outside Hitter awards on offer, Byron Ferguson was voted as one of the top two "Middle Blockers" and Knowles too home the award for "Best Digger".
Host and runner-up Martinique was not to be left out as Gregory Alpha (Best Opposite), Rodrigue Larcher (Outside Hitter), Nicholas Desert (Middle Blocker), and Christine Aymeric (Best Libero) all took home award.
Despite missing out on qualification to the CAZOVA Championship in Trinidad and Tobago next year, as well as the next round of World Championship qualifiers, Aruba had the consolation of Dwayne Angela (Best Spiker) and Elmerlindo Robles De Medina (Best Setter) among the awardees.
