GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman (GIS) -- Civil servants led by the Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson wore purple, which is the colour of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month, to join in a Dress Down Day to honour those in need of support against domestic violence, bullying and gender abuse.

Organised by the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Grand Cayman (BPW), the event precedes the 15th Annual Silent Witness March to highlight the ill-effects of domestic violence.

This year at the behest of the Family Resource Centre, the march will also honour and support those affected by bullying as part of a national campaign against this other critical subject that can affect multiple age groups, said Ms Patricia Muschette, Co-chair of Silent Witness March and 16 Days Campaign Against Gender Abuse.

The march itself will now take place on Monday, 26 October 2015. Participants wearing purple and carrying cut-outs representing victims of domestic violence will start at the Government Administration Building starting 5.30pm and walk down Elgin Avenue, proceed to Edward Street and finish at Celebration Park in front of the Court and Legislative Assembly Buildings. A short ceremony will follow.

All are encouraged to attend the march and show their support and intolerance towards domestic violence and bullying.
