BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (SKNIS) -- Last year’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens (MRT) have testified that the award has empowered them to fill even greater roles in society.

This was the opinion of several of the notable adolescents during the 2014 – 25 Most Remarkable Teens Project Display Ceremony which took place last Friday, November 06.  One teen, was Dennis McCall Junior who is currently a teacher at the Cayon High School.

“I am a CARICOM Youth Ambassador, in fact Dean of the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors and 25 Most Remarkable Teens has played a big part in training me to receive this, because I’ve been able to practice tolerance more and have a better understanding when working with young people,” he said.  “It has also given me a lot of patience as well.”

The projects also found creative ways of re-directing youth energy away from negative pursuits.  Leandre Dyer who was awarded in the category of spiritual commitment found a way to engage males that is often not a popular consideration in the culture of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“My project involves the performing arts mixed with a little bit of drama,” Mr. Dyer revealed.  “The idea for my production sparked from my passion for the art of dancing.  It targetted males ranging from ages 12 to 14.”

Geoffrey Hanley, Director of Youth Empowerment, commended last year’s MRT and encouraged them to continue moving in a positive direction.

“This year as we celebrate the fifth year of Remarkable Teens,” Mr. Hanley said. “It means that after the 12th of November we would have placed 125 young persons in the spotlight.  And I indeed say the spotlight because you are shining.  And it is a light that I would encourage you as young people to carry wherever you may go.”

This year’s 25 MRTs will be awarded Thursday, November 12 at a special sitting of National Parliament at 7:30 p.m., where Members of Parliament will present the awards to the young people in their constituency.  The general public is invited to view the proceedings live on ZIZ Television.
