PRFAA Director Meets With Labor Leaders

WASHINGTON, DC, U.S.A. (PRFAA) -- Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director, Juan E. Hernández, received at his office various representatives from different union groups of Puerto Rico.

The group was composed by Harry Perez, President  of the Department of Natural Resources Union, Mike Rivera, President of the PASO / SPU Union in the Department of Education, Lilian Perea, Coordinator at the Department of Family in San Juan, Blanca Paniagua , President of the Chapter of Retired and Braulio Torres, International Vice President of the Puerto Rican District. They visited the federal capital to realize a series of meetings to discuses various subjects of interest about their respective organizations.

“It is an honor for me to receive and personally hear the ideas of this group of representatives of the labor sector in Puerto Rico. This agency will always have its doors open and we are available to provide assistance to all Puerto Ricans. We must work together to boost the economy of Puerto Rico, “said Hernandez.

Among the affairs discussed, there were some issues related to the impact of the fiscal adjustment plan, Medicare Funds, and the process of the project for the inclusion of Puerto Rico in Chapter 9 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code, among others.

During the meeting, the Director stated that the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration Office is working to advance the bills H.R. 870 and S. 1774, which seeks to include Puerto Rico in the provisions of the Bankruptcy Code and H.R. 2635, which aims to improve the conditions for the disbursement of funds for Medicare and Medicaid Program in Puerto Rico.

Given the statements made by representatives of the labor sector, Hernández said: “The current situation of Puerto Rico is being addressed with sensitivity in order to obtain a balanced and fair solution for everyone. According to what the Governor has established, the discussion on the Fiscal Adjustment Plan of Puerto Rico is open, we believe that we can restructure the debt and take the economy of Puerto Rico forward. For this, it is necessary that all negotiation is done for the betterment of Puerto Rico.

Also, it is important to focus on  bring a single voice to Congress to make them pay adequate attention to our delicate situation. ”
